This year for the 2024 softball season MI-B has four seniors on our roster: Desirae Milton, Isabelle Mattson, Isabelle Ollila, and Jersey Yernatich.

The seniors on the MI-B softball team are not only our captains, but they also bring the energy and help hype up the team. The team will definitely be affected by the loss of the seniors next year, but we are going to enjoy our time with them this season. We appreciate the work and dedication they have put into our program throughout their years at MI-B.

Our seniors have learned a lot from being in the program. Milton says, “Softball taught me how to manage my emotions a lot.” Being on a team also creates memories. Her favorite memory was when the team went to a tournament in the cities. Desirae lastly said that if she was stranded on a deserted island, she would bring a magnifying glass, a variety of rope, and a hatchet.

Mattson said the MI-B softball program “taught me teamwork, patience, and perseverance.” She also shared that her favorite memory on the varsity team is playing in the playoff game last year. Mattson thinks that if she was stranded on a deserted island, she would want with her a lighter, a fishing line, and a pocket knife.

Ollila said, ”Softball taught me that I really just want to have fun and try not to let negative things bring me down.” Izzy feels that if she keeps a positive attitude, she can give out positive vibes. Her favorite softball memory is when they went to play traveling teams two years ago, and she played really well. Lastly, if Ollila were to bring three things with her on a deserted island, she would bring a tent, a fishing rod, and flint and steel.

Yernatich says, “Softball taught me how important it is to persevere during difficult times, teamwork, and humility. It also taught me that I can, in fact, live off sunflower seeds.” Yernatich’s favorite softball memory is the trip to the cities with the team. If Yernatich could bring three things with her to a deserted island, it would be a water filter, jet ski, and boat fuel.

Thank you seniors for all of your hard work throughout the years, your leadership, and your commitment to this team. You will all be missed, and we hope to make this season the best one yet.

Sierra and Alia Haney are sophomores at Mountain Iron-Buhl.
