Supports short-term rental self-policing
I read Dan Coffey’s viewpoint. I would suggest that the Short Term Rental business monitor themselves. It would be great if the three interested parties: real estate brokers, rental property managers, and rental property owners would create a system tasked with “self-policing” the short term rentals in our community.

Local developer gets OK to build affordable housing. Find out where.
SOUTH BEND — Across the street from the former Ward Bakery Building , now known as Portage Place , a local real estate developer just received the green light from the city’s redevelopment commission to repurpose vacant grass lots for affordable housing. Property Bros LLC plans to build The Row at Ward — seven to nine townhomes, five ancillary dwelling units and one duplex — at 710 Rex St. and 808-838 Portage Ave. The commission approved the purchase of the land at its April 9 meeting for $1,000 with the developing firm agreeing to invest a minimum of $2.1 million in the project. The units are expected to be roughly 1,500 square feet, designer Skip Morrell said, with two bedrooms and two baths. In this project’s case, the townhomes and duplexes will be available for purchase, and seven of the potential 15 units will be sold at 100% of the area’s median income. “You would actually own a single-family house, but it would be attached by a wall to the adjacent property,” Morrell said. They’re “looking at homeownership with these properties.” Almost every townhome will have an ancillary dwelling unit, an independent, smaller residential unit located on the same primary

Study: property values near data centers grew less than county
As Microsoft plans this month to break ground on a data center in Granger, a recent study of data centers’ effects on nearby home values found mixed results. The study by Denver-based Integra Realty Resources looked at estimated Zillow values from 2021 through this year, for 20 homes within a mile and a half of four Indiana data centers: Microsoft’s center in LaPorte, Amazon’s massive complex near New Carlisle, Google’s facility in Fort Wayne, and META’s center in Jeffersonville. Integra presented their analysis in support of a zoning variance that a developer recently won for the first large-scale Indianapolis data center.
