This Charming Amish Restaurant In Michigan Serves The Best Breakfast You’ll Ever Taste
The first time I walked into Country Table, I felt like I’d accidentally stumbled into White Pigeon’s collective living room. Flavors of India aims to bring authentic Indian flavors to Mishawaka
SOUTH BEND – The average direct flight from Chicago to India is more than 14 hours long and can cost up to $1,000. Mishawaka resident Ruby Kaur has made that flight plenty of times in the 15 years since she moved to the U.S. from New Delhi, India . She and her family, however, didn't think others should have to travel 7,000 miles to enjoy Indian culture, so they brought India to Mishawaka. Kaur's dad, Balbir Singh, owner of several Subway restaurants in the Mishawaka area, always hoped to open an Indian restaurant near the city, one he would've appreciated when he moved to the U.S. 25 years ago. More than anything, Singh and Kaur wanted to create a restaurant that produced authentic Indian food they could be proud of. “We do have a couple of other options for Indian restaurants [in Mishawaka], but we never had, like, an authentic Indian-flavored one," Kaur says. "They are very Americanized Indian restaurants, but we wanted to focus the flavor where even an Indian person can come and enjoy the food, not just Americans.” Over a year ago, they acquired and refurbished a building on McKinley Avenue to open Flavors of India —
