Pitchers Garrett Pennington and Evan Ford struck out eight batters combined and held the Indians to just one hit. Bryson coach Justin Ramirez said the solid start was not like his team. “Us able to come out like we did and start strong was great,” Ramirez said. “We’ve been a middle inning team, so that was nice.” Pennington got the start on the mound, only his second of the year for the Cowboys after an injury, and he set down the side in order to open the game. The Cowboys used a five-run first to take control. Caleb Allen was safe on a pitcher’s error, one of eight Huckabay miscues, and he moved to third on wild pitches. Evan Ford followed with a walk and moved to third on Pennington’s RBI single. With one gone, Ford scored on a passed ball while Jacob Hearne walked and stole second. Pennington and Hearne scored on Jameson Pierce’s triple for a 4-0 lead. Pierce came home on a fielder’s choice play and an error on the play, which brought Ty McComack aboard. The visitors used an error, two wild pitches and a sacrifice y to get on the board in the second. Bryson added three runs to the lead in the bottom of the inning. Ford and Pennington each drew walks with one out. In an attempt to pick Ford off at third, the throw went awry and allowed him to score. Pennington came home on a shortstop’s error which allowed Ben Aennett to get all the way to second. Walks to Hearne and Pierce loaded the bases for McComack, who was hit by a pitch to score Bennett for an 8-1 lead. A relief pitcher struck out the next two hitters to end the inning. Allen opened the Cowboy third inning by reaching on a second baseman error. Pennington drew a oneout walk and advanced to second. A catcher’s error on a pickoff throw brought home Allen. Pennington and Hearne, who had walked, were stranded after strikeouts ended the frame. In the fourth, a oneout single by Caden Bock and two errors brought home a run. Pennington brought home the final two runs with a triple. The squad ends its season Friday, April 26 in Bluff Dale.
