Once again, we’re all saying no data centers in Champaign County
Editor’s Note: As of the evening of Monday, October 5, the Village of Mahomet decided to end talks with Clean Cloud Energy, the developer looking to build a data center in Mahomet. Citing “a tremendous amount of community input,” Mahomet Mayor Jason Tompkins said he could not move forward with a project that the community would not embrace. We support the folks who organized quickly to rally against this type of development. This is proof that this type of activism works, and we need to continue to raise our voices against corporate greed and extractionism.

The Joseph Companies listed the plaza for sale last October at an asking price of $1.69 million. A warranty deed filed with the Peoria County Recorder of Deeds now shows OSF HealthCare System as the current owner. OSF established its presence in the plaza in 2020 by opening a Center for Health at the former site of a Cub Foods store. Patient visits have continued to grow there, and the Center for Health has expanded the services available, OSF spokesperson Shelli Dankoff said. “This growth reflects the increasing demand for convenient, accessible ambulatory care and our commitment to bringing more services together in locations that make it easier for patients and families to access the care they need,” she said. “As we look to the future, OSF continues to evaluate how best to integrate ambulatory services and create a more coordinated, patient-centered experience across the continuum of care which may require potential expansion into some of the current retail locations.” Dankoff said OSF has been having open conversations with current tenants and working through options based
