BROWNSVILLE, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — A cat was rescued from busy expressway traffic in Brownsville after it was found clinging onto a median sign base, the Texas Department of Transportation announced.

The cat was rescued by new TxDOT employee, Oscar Pantoja De la Garza, who spotted the cat on the center barrier along I-69E, near the Boca Chica exit.

“We’re grateful to our crew for saving the animal,” TxDOT said.

After the rescue, De la Garza contacted a local animal rescue group to foster the cat until it finds its forever home.

“Oscar loves animals and shares that caring for a pet can help children grow up more secure and active and can provide valuable companionship for older adults,” TxDOT stated.
