Air quality alert for Oregon
On Friday at 11:38 a.m. an air quality alert was issued for Deschutes, Grant and Wheeler counties. According to the National Weather Service, "Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Air Quality Advisory IN EFFECT UNTIL noon MONDAY. Advisory is in effect for Deschutes, Grant, and eastern Wheeler counties. A Smoke Air Quality Advisory has been issued. Wildfires burning in the region combined with forecasted conditions will cause air quality to reach unhealthy levels. Pollutants in smoke can cause burning eyes runny nose aggravate heart and lung diseases and aggravate other serious health problems. Limit outdoor activities and keep children indoors if it is smoky. Please follow medical advice if you have a heart or lung condition."
Air quality concerns continue into the weekend
Today will be a warm day with highs reaching the mid 80s for the region. Yesterday, we saw highs in the upper 70s with a high temperature of 79 in Bend, so we didn’t even hit the 80s. Yesterday was a little cooler than normal for this time of year but we’ll be seeing those seasonal temperature through early next week. We’ll get back into the 90s by mid to late next week. Lows will remain in the 40s and 50s.
Public Invited To Discuss Deschutes Co. Recreational Campground
BEND, OR -- Deschutes County Commissioners host a community conversation Tuesday, to discuss the potential for a recreational campground on Fort Thompson Lane, north of Bend. Firefighting pilot killed in tanker plane crash in Oregon
A tanker plane that disappeared in eastern Oregon while fighting one of the many wildfires spreading across several Western states has been found, and the pilot on board is dead, authorities said Friday.A Grant County Search and Rescue team located the aircraft Friday morning and confirmed the death, said Lisa Clark, a Bureau of Land Management information officer for the Falls Fire. Greenburg Road on-ramp to northbound Highway 217 to close for a week
Starting at 6 a.m. on Monday, July 29, the Greenburg Road on-ramp to northbound OR 217 will close for a week until 5 a.m., Monday, Aug. 5. During this closure, Oregon Department of Transportation crews will reconfigure the ramp to ensure it connects to the new, future auxiliary lane. The auxiliary lane is expected to reduce congestion when it opens in 2025 by giving drivers more space and time to merge safely. The suggested detour route is to take the Greenburg Road on-ramp to head southbound on OR 217 and use the OR 99W interchange to return to northbound OR 217. As calls to Measure 110 hotline dwindle, Oregon pays group $10K per call to answer
Oregon continues to pump $130,000 a month to an out-of-state nonprofit to run a Measure 110 hotline that barely rings. So far this year, the hotline has received just 73 calls from people with Measure 110 citations, translating into about $10,700 per call, the latest data from the Oregon Health Authority shows.
