VIENNA, Ohio (WKBN) – The Builders Association of Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania honored some local students on Wednesday for the excellence of their handiwork.

It was all part of the pre-apprentice competition.

Students from Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties built custom-made Adirondack chairs and were judged on their craft and attention to detail.

The project showcases the work the students do in the pre-apprentice program.

“They’re building these projects from a set of plans during school hours. Sometimes they have maybe only a half hour to work on these projects during the school day, and they’re difficult projects. These are second-year-level projects, so the students have to work through different angles, and cuts, and measurements to put that final project together, and they did a great job,” said Gary Hartman, of The Builders Association.

The top prize winner took home a $1,000 gift card, while the winning school walked away with $1,500.

First Place went to James Mincks of West Branch.

Second Place: Mitchell Hoffman of West Branch

Third Place: Darren Kemp of East Palestine School District

And the winning school was Brookfield Local School District.
