A man was killed and his brother was critically wounded when they went to confront a crook who robbed one of them earlier that day, police and sources said Wednesday.

Cops responding to a 911 call and an alert from the city’s ShotSpotter system found Michael Mendez, 34, shot in the stomach and his 38-year-old brother blasted all over his body near Morris Ave. and E. Fordham Road in Fordham just before 9:50 p.m. on Tuesday, officials said.

Medics rushed both victims to St. Barnabas Hospital , where Mendez died.

Cell phone footage of the aftermath shows a wounded man in a baseball cap on his hands and knees as a uniformed police officer stands over him just before 10 p.m.

Unable to support himself any longer, the shot man falls headfirst onto the pavement.

Another video, recorded minutes later, shows police officers bending over the man to render aid.

The shooting unfolded after the older brother went to Mendez and told him he was robbed earlier in the day, police sources said.

The men, armed with a knife, went downstairs and threw bricks through a window of a parked van, they added.

Police believe someone in the van fired one shot before stepping out onto the street and firing three more, cop sources said.

“I live right here,” said Arnez Ahedo, 48. “I heard last night from my living room — ‘Pow! Pow! Pow! Pow!’  I was in my living room with my children watching TV. I heard a bunch of shots and there were a bunch of people running and screaming.”

Blood stained the sidewalk along Morris Ave. Across the street, glass remained from the windows of an abandoned charter bus, which was struck during the round of shooting.

Neighbors said the bus has been parked there for about eight weeks despite calls to the city to  take it away. Residents said people have been living on the bus, which reeked of trash and waste, but it was unclear if anyone was in the bus at the time of the shooting.

“I have called 311 several times and they do nothing,” Ahedo told the Daily News. “That bus is garbage. You have people going in and out. Honestly, I don’t know who lives on that bus. It’s getting dirty, and nasty people do their doo-doo. There’s garbage and that bus stinks.”

Another neighbor called the shooting senseless.

“It’s stupid. If you want to shoot a gun, there’s other ways to do it,” said the neighbor, who is 72. “Go to the shooting gallery.”

He described the aftermath as chaotic.

“I just heard people running up that way,” he said, pointing toward E. Fordham Road. “I heard them screaming at each other. ‘Let’s get out of here! Let’s get out here! Come on! Come on! Come on! Don’t slow down! Let’s get out of here.’ It was girls and guys.”
