    Bronson hit parade pushes Vikings past Union City in Big 8 softball clash

    BRONSON - Another day, another softball battle in Branch County, as the rivalry between the Bronson Vikings and the Union City Chargers culminated with doubleheader action at Bronson High School on Tuesday.

    Bronson continued their unbeaten ways inside the Big 8 Conference, improving to 8-0 in league play with wins by scores of 17-5 and 16-0.

    The story of the night could be seen both at the plate and on the mound. At the plate Bronson was dominant, out hitting Union City 33-6.

    On the mound it was Bronson’s Mya Webb hurling yet another hitless gem, following up a three-inning perfect game last week with a three-inning no-hitter Tuesday in the 16-0 win.

    Before we get to the Webb gem, the Vikings took game one by the score of 17-5. Bronson out hit Union City 16-6 in the victory.

    Bronson raced out to the early lead, scoring 14 runs over the first three innings. Union City came back with five runs in the top of the fourth to close the game to within 14-4, however three runs from the Vikings in the bottom of the fourth sealed the deal as the Chargers got two runners on in the fifth but could not advance either one, leading to the final score of 17-5

    Bronson’s Ashlynn Harris led the show for the Vikings, taking the win on the mound after throwing five full innings while allowing five runs, three earned, with five hits and one walk with 12 strikeouts. Harris also had a big day at the plate, finishing 3 for 4 with two doubles and one RBI.

    For more Vikings notched a multi-hit game, paced by Brealyn Lasky who finished a perfect 4 for 4 with four singles and an RBI. Also adding to the Bronson win was Ciara Blankenship with two singles, an RBI and two stolen bases; Lydia Wells with two singles and a double with two RBIs; Webb with two singles and an RBI; Kailynn Scare with a single, two RBIs and two stolen bases; and Braelynn Gimenez with a single and an RBI.

    Brooklynne Schley took the loss on the mound for Union City after throwing all four innings and allowing 16 hits and 17 runs, 14 earned, with two walks and two strikeouts.

    Calli Wilkinson led the Union City effort with two singles and a run scored. Hannah Schofield recorded a double with an RBI and a run scored while Emily DeLisle added a single, two RBIs, and a run scored. Also notching singles was Aislynn Phelps and Gracie Phelps, with both also adding a run.

    Game two was the site of Webb’s gem, as the starting ace threw three innings, allowing only one walk with three strikeouts,

    It was another hit fest for the Vikings, as Bronson out hit Union City 17-0.

    Harris and Wells both finished a perfect 3 for 3, with three singles and an RBI from Harris while Wells had two doubles and a triple with three RBIs.

    Also notching a multi-hit game was Blankenship with two singles and an RBI; Lasky with two singles and two RBis; Roni Bir with a single and a double with an RBI; and Webb with two singles.

    Adding to the Viking win was Gimenez with a double, two RBIs and a stolen base while Scare added a single and an RBI.

    Karlie Eagen took the loss on the mound for Union City after throwing three innings, allowing 16 hits and 15 runs, only six earned, with two strikeouts.

    The Chargers only had one base runner in game two as Wilkinson drew a walk.

    “Mya (Webb) threw a good game tonight. We were able to put the bat on the ball,” Bronson coach Becky Gray. “We still have work to do defensively, and we will work to make those improvements.”
