Man sentenced to 65 years in prison for pair of Rockville stabbings
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — A 33-year-old has been sentenced to 65 years in prison for a pair of stabbings in Montgomery County, one of which ended a man's life. The stabbings happened on Sept. 3, 2022 on Hungerford Drive in Rockville. Officers with the Rockville City Police and Montgomery County Police Department responded to the area just before 10 p.m. for the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, they found a man suffering from a stab wound who was able to provide a suspect description. The victim was taken to a hospital, treated, and released.
Judge drops felony charges against ex-elections official in Virginia
MANASSAS, Va. (AP) — A judge is dismissing felony charges against a former northern Virginia elections official accused of misconduct in the 2020 elections. State prosecutors now say a key witness in the case has changed his story. The judge dismissed the felony charges against former Prince William County Registrar Michele White on Friday at prosecutors’ request. White is still set to be tried next month on a misdemeanor charge of willful neglect of duty. Very little has been publicly revealed about what prosecutors believe White did wrong. Court records merely indicate that the case revolves around 2020 election returns. County officials have said any discrepancies in the vote count were inconsequential.

Students in Virginia’s largest school system won’t have to sign on for virtual learning in the event of any snow days this school year. In a message posted on the Fairfax County Public Schools website, Superintendent Michelle Reid said there won’t be any virtual learning days if schools are closed due to inclement weather. It marks a change from last year’s policy, which said that the first five inclement weather days would be traditional snow days, and anything beyond that would be unscheduled virtual learning days.

Video footage from the incident posted on Saturday shows crews from the FCPD and the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department work together to save Maya, the Shih Tzu, who had gotten stuck in the vent. The crew tried various ways to retrieve the pet and had to eventually drill open the basement roof to get Maya out.
