Bristol is enjoying a special high school baseball season.

The Warriors have won their first 13 games this spring, which is the best start in school history, heading into Wednesday's Bicentennial Athletic League showdown at undefeated Faith Christian in Quakertown (3:45 p.m. start).

Bristol is doing it with strong senior leadership, along with a talented and deep roster, plenty of versatile players and very good team chemistry.

"We connect really, really well and have so much camradarie," said sophomore pitcher/catcher Cole Guy.

Third baseman Chance Wideman has played Bristol Borough Little League ball with his fellow seniors since they were 5 years old, so they are quite familiar and comfortable with each other.

"The senior class holds everybody to high standards," Wideman said. "We were just talking about how we're setting standards for Bristol baseball. We're honored we have an opportunity to make a run like this."

Bristol baseball putting up impressive numbers

The Warriors have outscored opponents 158-27 this season. They possess a .411 team batting average, have won seven games by double digits and registered two shutouts.

Bristol has progressed from a 6-10 record in 2022 to 11-7 last year to this stellar spring.

"Everyone puts in their work and plays their role," Guy said. "We're a really good team. We can do stuff this year."

Bristol set for BAL showdown with fellow unbeaten Faith Christian

Wednesday's meeting with 14-0 Faith Christian should be a real measuring stick for Bristol. Loaded Faith, a Class A school and BAL rival, owns a 191-10 run differential, to go along with 11 double-digit victories and seven shutouts.

"It's two great teams," Guy said. "It's going to be a battle. Our energy should be good."

"We really can't wait for (the Faith game)," Wideman said. "We feel like we have something to prove. People look at us like a little school and we want to show we're bigger and better than most of the competition."

The players and head coach Lou Perischetti believe that all three coaches — Perischetti (class of 1998) and assistants Danny Ayala (1992) and Trevor Guy, a '96 grad and Cole's dad — having played baseball at Bristol makes a difference.

"We don’t take the responsibility of leading the program the right way lightly," Perischetti said. "We know how much it means to the kids and to the town of Bristol."

    Bristol eyeing PIAA postseason success

The Warriors won PIAA District One championships in 1998 (Class AA), as well as 2001 (A) and '03 (also Class A) under Tony Mangiaracina. They dropped the Class A title game to Calvary Christian in 2012 to snap an 11-game win streak.

Bristol is the top District One Class AAA seed this year and will remain there heading into the combined District One/11 playoffs. The two finalists from the District 11-heavy bracket will advance to the state tournament.

"I think we honestly can make a run for states," Wideman said. "We've got strong arms (among other strengths). It's just really a well-rounded team. Not building up cockiness or anything, but we're playing confident."
