BRIGHTON, N.Y. (WROC) — Brighton Police along with New York State Police announced an arrest in the case of a missing girl who was located safely in New York City this week.

Brighton Police said the 14-year-old was found 17 hours after she was reported missing. Police arrested a 40-year-old Serdar Ozmen in connection to this crime and charged him with one count of kidnapping in the first degree.

The suspect was said to have been arraigned this morning by a Brighton Town Judge and is being held at Monroe County Jail without bail.

At a news conference on Tuesday , Police Chief David Catholdi indicated they tracked a cell phone to a Bronx apartment where the 14-year-old was safely recovered and taken to the hospital for evaluation before returning home.

Police said they had a person of interest they were looking for, but no arrests had been made. Investigators believe the girl met someone through an online chat app.

Brighton Police have scheduled a news conference for 3:30 p.m. Thursday. You can watch it live right here on RochesterFirst.com.
