Future Rocky Mount Flo’s slated to open in a few weeks
The future Rocky Mount Flo’s Kitchen is gearing up to start serving customers the second week of January. That is what part-owner Jeff Ellis in a Dec. 23 phone interview called a good estimate. “We are getting close,” Ellis said. The team is waiting on a certificate of occupancy from the city of Rocky Mount to be able to open what is going to be a drive-thru breakfast business at the corner of Sunset Avenue and Dominick Drive near the interchange for Sunset and Wesleyan Boulevard, Ellis noted. Generally, a certificate of occupancy from the city means that the location is safe and compliant for usage. City Communications, Marketing and Public Relations Director Grant Roberson said in email correspondence on Dec. 18 that there are some miscellaneous construction-related items that are still underway, but he said that, “For certain, this project is near completion.” The Rocky Mount Flo’s is going to be the second Flo’s location along with the one in Wilson, which is a popular drive-thru place to get breakfast food and is particularly famous for offering large cheddar cheese biscuits. Ringing in the Noon Year: Greenville pivot celebration a hit, even in the daytime
A daytime celebration improvised by the City of Greenville because of bulkhead work on the Town Common may have kickstarted a new end-of-year tradition for local families. Noon Year’s Eve saw hundreds of people raise glasses of sparkling wine — and sparkling grape juice — for an early toast welcoming 2026 at Five Points Plaza on Wednesday. The city, along with the Downtown Greenville Partnership, organized the event because the traditional New Year’s Eve Emerald Drop featuring live music and fireworks at the Town Common was canceled, due to the bulkhead being rebuilt and new amenities being added at the riverfront park. “I was talking to one of the organizers and they were saying in our traditional celebration, we’ve had people who have asked if they would have something that started earlier that would be kid-friendly,” Councilwoman Portia Willis said. “This was the perfect opportunity with the construction on the Town Common to try it out. We’ve been hearing great comments.” Willis and new Councilman Seth Hardee joined city staff in handing out city calendars, pens, rubber bracelets, keychains and other items to people.
