BRIDGETON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A longtime tradition brought dozens of people into Bridgeton this weekend for the annual rendezvous days event.

The event involves much of the community and has been a tradition for over 30 years. There were cooking demonstrations, rifle firings, and much more. People near and far came to town to get a glimpse of old times.

The reenactment focuses on the time period from 1750-1840, which includes before the French and Indian War through the War of 1812. Bridgeton resident Celia Case has been involved since the reenactment began.

“It is to show the people about the history of the area,” she said. “It’s important to learn about the local history, we can learn from our mistakes for one thing, so it’s just a really fun activity for the whole family.”

The event has grown much larger over the years and continues to draw newcomers. This year, Illinois resident Curtis Keller decided to travel in and participate.

“The reenacting community is kind of a small community and so we stay in touch with each other,” he said. “I learned about this event from a few different Facebook groups that I am in.”

The event is set to return next April, but plans are in place for Bridgeton to host a Civil War reenactment during the last weekend in August.
