Mead School Board asks Ferguson to join student tax credit plan
MEAD, Wash. — The Mead School District Board of Directors said it passed a resolution and sent a letter to Gov. Bob Ferguson asking him to opt Washington into the Federal Scholarship Tax Credit Program by Jan. 1, 2027. The board said it took that step after the Secretary of Education visited Spokane and urged the governor to join the program. Mead leaders said the move could bring more help to public school students as district budgets stay tight. Board Chair BrieAnne Gray said the board wanted the governor to take the same practical approach he used after the Spokane Complex fires. “With school budgets under pressure, we are looking at every available tool that can put more resources in front of our students without taking anything away from our existing funding,” Gray said. “This program is paid for entirely by private donations. It does not reduce state or local education dollars. Opting in by Jan. 1, 2027, lets Mead families and our public-school students benefit. If we wait, Washington taxpayers can still claim the credit, but the money will support students in other states.” The board said its position did not match Superintendent Chris Reykdal’s Oct. 9 letter, which

SPOKANE, Wash. - Whether you call it the 'North-South Freeway,' or 'Future 395,' the North Spokane Corridor continues to teach us that change takes time... sometimes seven or more decades. Nicole Lagoo, now the Public Information Officer for the Washington State Department of Transportation's Eastern Region, said this plan to construct a freeway connecting Interstate 90 on the South end of Spokane to US 2 on the North end of Spokane began in 1956. "People are like 'oh, am I ever going to see it done in my lifetime?' I always tell them progress is visible, our crews are out here working all the time," Nicole said Thursday. "We've made so much progress." Nicole exclaimed that the North Spokane Corridor, or 'NSC,' reached a major milestone this October as girders were placed over Sprague Avenue, only a few blocks from the intended connection with Interstate 90. She said that work was completed overnight and that crews are pouring concrete for the bridge deck on that section now. "Once we have stage 3 and stage 2 complete, then we're going to be able to open another portion of the highway and so Wellesley to Trent Avenue is going to open in
