File photo By Mike Williams news@breckenridgeamerican.com The city of Breckenridge is getting ready for summer and fun in the sun and the city pool. Hiring is underway and this summer’s pool hours have been announced. Positions are open for lifeguard and lifeguard managers for the 2024 season. The city is accepting applications in person at city hall located at 105 N. Rose St. or online at breckenridgetx.gov. Lifeguard positions are available with a pay rate of $10 per hour for anyone aged 15 years and older. Lifeguard manager positions are available with a pay rate of $12 per house and applicants must be 18 years or older. Applications must be turned in by Sunday, May 5. “We’re super excited about having it open, there’s a lot that goes into that. We’ve worked really hard to put together the hours and put together an atmosphere where everyone can come and enjoy it,” City Secretary Jessica Sutter said. “Last year we did put up some hours that we feel that worked really well for the community. It opened up public swim (to) pretty much every day, including Sundays. We still have family swim night and just go with that trend this year, we feel it really worked out. The citizens seem to be happy with it.” Sutter said the city plans to open the pool Sunday, May 25 and operate through Sunday, Aug. 4, as long as staffing allows. City Manager Cynthia Northrop said the city hires 25 seasonal workers to operate the pool. “I’ve only been here one year during (hiring), but it seems like it’s always down to the wire,” Northrop said. Public swim will take place Tuesdays through Thursdays from noon-6 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sundays from noon-4 p.m. Family swim nights will be Tuesdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The pool will be closed Mondays for maintenance and cleaning on Mondays, except for Monday, May 27. Admission to the pool will be $3 per session with children aged three and under allowed to enter for free. New this year will be the option to purchase punch cards. “We had some requests of possibly looking into a season pass and looking at that,” Sutter said. “We’ve kind of looked over some of the options and what we felt would best work. So what we decided was to do a punch card where citizens can come in and purchase a punch card with 12 passes, 12 punches that they can go in for $30. They can purchase that at city hall.” Passes will also be available to purchase at the pool. They can only be purchased with cash or check only, which provides a $6 savings. “(We will) kind of just see how that works and see how that takes off,” Sutter said. “If that’s something people really like then we can look into (that) a little bit more. But this season we really feel that’s going to be the best option for that.” No changes have been made to the private pool party rentals. The pool will be available for rental from 4:30-9 p.m. Friday through Sunday at a rental rate of $200 with a two-hour minimum for a maximum of 150 people. Rentals are on a first come first serve basis. Interested community members can visit city hall to reserve a date and time. The concession stand will not be open for private parties, however, snacks and drinks will be allowed. No alcohol or glass bottles are allowed.
