Deer causes motorcycle crash on Highway 3 near LaPlata
A motorcycle accident occurred on the night of May 18, 2024, at approximately 9:00 p.m. on Highway 3, six miles southwest of LaPlata, Missouri. The incident involved a 2007 Harley Davidson Electra Glide traveling northbound when it struck a deer and overturned, resulting in the driver being ejected from the motorcycle.
U.S. Highway 63 resurfacing in northeast Missouri delayed until mid-June
NORTHEAST MISSOURI — Road resurfacing work on U.S. Highway 63 in northeast Missouri that was set to begin this week has been delayed. In a release Monday morning, Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) officials announced that work on a 24-mile stretch of U.S. 63 from the Iowa state line to 0.6 mile north of Business 63 near Kirksville will now begin as early as mid-June.

ST. LOUIS — A university with multiple campuses has purchased a former grocery store site near Lafayette Square for $4 million. A.T. Still University, a health sciences university and medical school based in Kirksville, purchased 1500 Lafayette Ave., the site of one of the locations of local chain Fields Foods, which shut down last year, in January, according to sales data from Reonomy. The seller was St. Louis Food Hub LLC, which is organized by Chris Goodson, the owner of Fields Foods.
