Getting To Know Oak Tree Gun Club
When Booge Mercer founded Oak Tree Gun Club in 1973, it started with four trap shooting fields, two skeet shooting fields, a trailer, and two outhouses. Booge envisioned the club as a safe haven for recreational shooters that would endure for generations. Initially, Oak Tree was a private trap and skeet club, but in the mid-1970s, Booge transitioned it into a public shooting range. During this period, she expanded the facilities by adding a clubhouse with a bar and restaurant, as well as a residence. The club has been the home of the California Clay Busters and other shooting clubs ever since. Over the years, Oak Tree has attracted numerous celebrities, including Charlton Heston, Roy Rogers, Steven Spielberg, director John Milias, and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who visited after filming Conan the Barbarian (1982). Robert Stack of The Untouchables (1959-1963) was also a regular visitor, often seen enjoying coffee at the clubhouse on Saturday mornings.
