Atlantic season goes through September 21 with no hurricanes, breaking 112-year record
A century-old weather record has been broken as a highly unusual Atlantic hurricane season continues. No hurricanes have formed so far in the Atlantic this season, which is now a new record for the latest in the hurricane without one in the Satellite Era (since 1966). Now, this is the first time in 112 years that the season has gone past September 21 without a recorded hurricane.

Less muggy air arrives, but Louisiana, Mississippi stay warm
Thursday brings more sunshine and less muggy air to the New Orleans area. Most places will stay dry, with a high near 90 degrees in the city. Northeast winds will stay light, around 5 mph. It will still be warm outside, but the lower humidity should help it feel more comfortable.

New Orleans Sizzles as Dry ‘Cold’ Front Fails to Cool the City
A dry front is shifting the area toward drier air, with a northerly wind shift. Morning lows across the region are around 72°F, and the broader forecast calls for highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s, so fall-like relief is not arriving just yet. Sunny, Hot Wednesday With...

Dry front brings relief heading into the weekend
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A dry cold front is sweeping through southeast Louisiana and the Mississippi coast this afternoon, and it’s bringing the kind of relief we’ve been craving. The front is pushing north to south through the area into this evening, and while it won’t kill our heat entirely, it’s dragging in noticeably lower humidity behind it. Winds are shifting northerly, highs are still climbing into the low 90s, but the drop in moisture means feels like temperatures are finally falling out of the triple digits. Some spots will still feel like the low 90s, but that’s a big step down from what we’ve been dealing with. Rain chances are basically locked out today, near negligible area-wide, though a stray shower could still pop up along the coast.

Evening storms then hot again on Tuesday
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – We still have some storms developing across the area this evening, so don’t put the umbrella away just yet. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will remain possible through the evening, with some storms capable of producing heavy downpours, gusty winds and frequent lightning. Not everyone will see rain, but if you do get caught under one of these storms, it could come down pretty heavily for a short time. The best chance will be across the Florida Parishes and southern Mississippi.

Storm chances spike this afternoon before another stretch of heat and dry air takes over
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Today is the last full day of Summer as astronomical fall arrives Tuesday evening, but it will still feel like Summer around here this week. Storms are firing up as we lock in one of the more active afternoons we’ve seen in a while across southeast Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. An upper level trough is sliding east and settling right over our region this afternoon, and that is just enough to let showers and thunderstorms bubble up more readily than they have lately. Keep that Fox 8 weather app handy if you’re heading out, because any storm that fires could briefly kick up gusty winds, heavy downpours and frequent lightning. Rain chances stay elevated into Tuesday before things start to taper off.

New Orleans Levee Study Targets 200-Year Storm Protection, Years Away
New Orleans is moving forward with a $3 million study to figure out what it would take to protect the region from a 200-year storm, a far higher bar than the 100-year level the current levee system was built to withstand. The region's flood protection authority board approved cost-sharing agreements Thursday, splitting the price of the study between state agencies and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, clearing what officials describe as a near-final hurdle before work can begin.

Increased chances for Tropical Depression formation in Atlantic by Wednesday
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – We’re continuing to monitor an area in the tropical Atlantic that the National Hurricane Center flags for potential development as early as Wednesday. The NHC says that “a trough of low pressure located about 1000-miles east-southeast of Bermuda continues to produce disorganized showers and thunderstorms” adding that “environmental conditions over the system are forecast to become more conducive for development by the middle of this week.”
