Supports Suicide Prevention Day
Warren County Commissioner Walter Powell joined a team from Warrenton nonprofit Paradise Landing 1, Inc. went to the North Carolina State Legislative Building on May 22 in support of Suicide Prevention Day. Powell and representatives from the nonprofit, which offers counseling and other services for domestic violence victims, the homeless, HIV patients, those seeking employment and others, spoke to legislators regarding matters related to gun control and suicide prevention. Commissioner Powell also been asked to be guest speaker at an event for a family that lost their daughter to suicide.

Upgrades are underway for historic Lake Gaston Community Center building
The Lake Gaston Community Center was erected in 1921 and has been a fixture in the Gaston community for more than 100 years. Today, the center at 564 NC Hwy 46, Gaston, serves as a site for people to gather for wedding receptions and community events and as a voting site. It is also a place for people to go when a natural disaster strikes. However, the current kitchen facilities are not sufficient to cater to the needs of the community during such times. Recognizing this, Lake Gaston Community Center leaders and the Lakeside Lutheran Church Evangelism team are working on a project to upgrade the center’s kitchen to commercial grade.

LGA Annual Membership Meeting is June 8
The Lake Gaston Association will hold its annual membership meeting on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. at the Lake Gaston Baptist Church, 2378 Eaton Ferry Road, Littleton, NC. (Located across from the LKG Chamber of Commerce and Subway Restaurant). There will be light refreshments from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m., followed by an exciting presentation on "The Snakes of Lake Gaston and How to Identify Them." Before the presentation, current members in good standing will be asked to vote on the updated bylaws and the new directors. The proposed changes to the bylaws are posted on the LGA at www.LGAncva.com.
