Sunny & seasonal to finish out the week before rain chances return
Happy Thursday, Northland! With the more seasonal temperatures we had a fair bit of cloud cover yesterday along with some light showers, but we were still able to get the sun at times. As a high-pressure system works its way in, we will continue to see calmer and drier weather to finish out the week. We will have some cumulus clouds but generally plenty of sunshine today with light northerly winds helping keep temperatures in the 70s. Overnight, much of the Northland will dip into the 40s with some upper 30s not off the table before we have a similarly seasonal day Friday. Despite the chill, the calm and clear condition overnight will give ideal viewing conditions for the lunar eclipse. Though it will be a partial lunar eclipse, around 96% of the moon will be obscured in the Earth’s shadow to give that rusty red appearance.

Dry conditions continues Monday with light lake breeze, followed by stormy Tuesday
The Northland has been blessed in August with ideal weekend weather conditions, which continued over the past few days. A high-pressure system provided the region with plenty of sunshine, light winds, no issues with humidity levels, and temperatures in the seasonal range for late August. We will continue that Sunday night with mostly clear skies and a bit of fog in spots. Low temperatures will be in the 40s and 50s. Monday will see some clouds pass through from time to time, but we remain dry and comfortable. A light lake breeze will keep highs next to Lake Superior in the upper 60s and low 70s, with upper 70s farther inland.

A system to bring showers and potentially severe storms through Thursday
Happy Thursday, Northland! Wednesday was more of the same, and the same for August is mostly sunny conditions with seasonal temperatures so nothing too much to complain about. The lack of the rain is the main issue with these conditions as we are under significant drought for almost all of the Northland, but fortunately we will get some alleviation today. A system is bringing showers to the Northland this morning, which will spread northwest to southeast. So far, we have seen a few tenths of an inch of rain for the western counties with more to come. As we get into the afternoon, the dry slot of the system will bring decreasing clouds to areas along the I-35 corridor and south of US-2, which will give opportunity for the atmosphere to recover for more storms as we head into the evening. Storms will be isolated to scattered, mainly impacting areas along and south of US-2 and west of SH-13 in Wisconsin. Some storms can be severe, with a marginal and slight risk for severe weather centered along the I-35 corridor. Large hail will be the main threat with damaging winds also a possibility. Overall, we can expect 0.25” to 0.75” of rain for much of the Northland, with locally higher amount over 1” possible. With the added moisture, fog will be possible by tomorrow morning.

Summer warmth continues Monday with showers & thunderstorms late in the day
A few of us got the decent rainfall we need all across the Northland this weekend, but for many of us this past few days saw more ideal summer-like weather conditions with a nuisance shower or two at times Saturday. A high-pressure system provided a clearing out of cloud cover Sunday with highs in the 70s and low 80s. We will see clear skies Sunday night with light winds and patchy fog in spots. Low temperatures will be seasonal in the 50s. Monday will see more summer-like highs with highs in the upper 70s and low 80s with a light breeze and a bit more humidity. It comes as a storm system with a cold front will push through the region Monday evening and overnight. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be more prevalent north of Highway 2.
