Texas man dead after early morning Winkler Co crash

WINKLER COUNTY, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – A Texas man was found dead at the scene of an accident near mile marker 232 of State Highway 302, after veering onto the wrong side of the road early Thursday morning.

Preliminary investigation by Texas DPS revealed that at about 1:35am on Thursday, April 18, a 2023 Ram pickup was travelling east in the left lane of SH 302 while a 2016 Freightliner truck with trailer was travelling west on the same road. The pickup truck driver, later identified as 42-year-old Gaylon Ray, of Bowie, Texas, veered onto the wrong side of the road, not passing, and struck the semi-truck. The pickup then rolled over, ejecting Love from the vehicle. Love was pronounced dead at the scene.

Love was found to not have been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.

The crash remains under investigation.
