ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Members of the Allentown Police Department and citizens of the community will be recognized at a ceremony Wednesday. In observance of National Police Week, the City of Allentown will hold a Police Commendation Awards Ceremony on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Scottish Rite Cathedral on 1533 West Hamilton Street, according to a news release from the Allentown Police Department.

Trial scheduled for man accused of stabbing teen at Perkasie skatepark
A Pottstown man is headed to trial on charges stemming from a stabbing incident that occurred at a Perkasie skatepark last year. Court records show 20-year-old Nikolas Lore, formerly of Perkasie, has a trial scheduled for June 10 at 9 a.m. at the Bucks County Court of Common Pleas. He is charged with one felony count of aggravated assault and misdemeanor counts of possessing an instrument of crime, simple assault, and reckless endangerment, stemming from the alleged incident.

Northampton Area School District OKs proposed budget
The Northampton Area School District Board of Directors adopted a proposed 2024-25 budget with no tax increase on property owners. The board at their April 8 meeting directed Superintendent Joseph Kovalchik and Business Administrator Craig Neiman to produce a proposed final budget which held the line on taxes. This came after the duo offered various scenarios which included tax increases if Moore Elementary School was to close, and options if Moore was to remain open.

The Animal Rescue League of Berks County is in need for foster families as the shelter already is seeing the effects of kitten season straining capacity at the shelter. Kitten season typically peaks during the spring and summer months, inundating shelters with litters of kittens in need of care and nurturing.
