Deion Sanders involved with family drama with daughter

Deion Sanders is involved in yet another controversy but this time it’s with his family. His daughter Shelomi Sanders announced via social media that she was leaving the Colorado Buffaloes to the dismay of her father, Colorado’s head football coach Deion Sanders.

The younger Sanders announced her plans to go play basketball at Alabama A&M University and when her father found out, he flipped.

“… With intentional consideration and prayer, I have decided to enter the transfer portal with three years of eligibility left. Boulder will forever hold a special place in my heart and I will never forget the memories I have had the opportunity to make since being here. Thank you again Buff Nation!”

He was not pleased with her decision because apparently, she didn’t discuss her plans with him. He called his daughter’s decision “stupid” and then added:

“You get a team before you enter the portal. That’s what I would advise a child. I know it’s illegal, c’mon, c’mon. Everybody knows somebody that knows somebody, that knows somebody. You kind of want them to do something. … And she truly has been advised.”

Besides being upset that she didn’t discuss this plan with him, he also seems a little bit embarrassed about how she did it.

“You have to understand. I am a real father; I am a real man and a real dad. Where I come from and historically, kids follow their parents,” he said. “When do parents start following their kids? That doesn’t work in my book. That does not work where I am from. I am the leader of the family, I have been dictating where my kids go, not them dictating where I go.”

All of Sanders’s college-aged kids followed him to Colorado after he left Jackson State including his daughter who played for the women’s team there where she averaged about 16 points per game.

Although Shelomi Sanders hasn’t commented on what her father said, her mother Pilar, who is his ex wife, made it known she was not pleased with his comments about their daughter’s decision.

“Stop talking about a present parent. Don’t make me say more than I have to say stop talking about being a present parent,” she said.“She’s navigating through this transition seamlessly. It’s not stupid… She’s experiencing what it’s like to be a wanted player, something she didn’t get to experience before. ” Then added that her daughter left Colorado because she was never given a fair chance to really get recruited.”

It sounds like the younger Sanders was allowed on the team because of who her father is and she wanted to go to a program that needed her skills.

Deion Sanders is coming off in this situation as a bit of a control freak. In recent interviews, he has hinted he only wants his sons to play for certain NFL teams , a claim he later denies, however, it’s quite obvious who is running the show, and when one of his kids steps out of line, he lets it be known how he feels.

Not supporting his daughter about this decision, is not a good look for Coach Prime.
