BOONE, Iowa (WHO) — It is a financial boon for the community of Boone – Daisy Brand dairy announced on Friday that it plans to make a $626 million investment in a facility that could employ more than 250 people when finished.

According to the Ames Chamber of Commerce , Daisy plans to build a 750,000 square foot facility in Boone. The facility will initially employ 106 people, with an expectation that up to 255 people could be employed “as demand increases.”

The Iowa Economic Development Authority is giving Daisy Brands $7 million in direct assistance as well as unspecified tax benefits.

“This truly was a regional effort to attract a national brand to central Iowa. Our community partners in Boone worked tirelessly to make this project a reality for not only the benefit of Boone, but our entire region,” said Ames Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Commission President and CEO Dan Culhane in a release.

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds said that Daisy Brand’s investment in the state will help Iowa in it’s standing as a manufacturing powerhouse.

“With a third of the nation’s top food manufacturers located in Iowa and 26% of our manufacturing industry attributed to food processing, Iowa and Daisy are a perfect fit,” Reynolds said. “From our dairy industry and farmers to our skilled workforce, there is no better place for Daisy to expand, and I am confident the company will continue to flourish in our great state.”
