Warrior Beach Retreat parade and ceremony honoring veterans is Feb. 26
PANAMA CITY BEACH — A large parade and ceremony for wounded veterans is set to take place Feb. 26 in Panama City Beach. Warrior Beach Retreat is a tradition now in its 17th year. Organizers treat veterans and their spouses from around the country to a week on the beach with activities and meals at swanky local restaurants. In previous reporting by the News Herald, attendees said the occasion was healing and helped with some of the more invisible wounds that they're enduring . The center of the occasion is a parade, where veterans are escorted through the city alongside bikers, antique military vehicles and police. During the last iteration, a Bay County Sheriff's Office helicopter got very close to the ensemble while they were crossing the Hathaway Bridge. Organizers invite the public to line the streets of the parade route and show their support for the veterans. This year, the parade kicks off at 4 p.m. on Feb. 26 behind the JC Penny in Pier Park, and will go for an hour before ending at the Boardwalk Beach Resort. Flags will be available for those attending the parade on the west end of the Hathaway Bridge. The full parade
