Bolton city clerk accused of embezzlement
BOLTON, Miss. — A clerk for the city of Bolton is accused of embezzling tens of thousands of dollars from the water department. The office of Mississippi Auditor Shad White said Shelia Williams was served with a nearly $36,000 demand letter at the time of her arrest. White's office said she is accused of embezzling cash payments from Bolton's water department.

Unsafe road conditions have led the City of Jackson to face at least 13 lawsuits from citizens who sustained bodily injuries after vehicular crashes, including two wrongful death lawsuits and one that caused a man to lose an eye.

McDonald’s complains about frontage road barricade
Two months after the City of Clinton blocked off the entrance to a frontage road for safety reasons, a business is claiming it’s losing customers because of the barricade. In a letter to Mayor Phil Fisher, an executive assistant for the O’Ferrall Management Group in Madison said the decision to block the road was reached “unilaterally,” with no input from McDonald’s and two other affected businesses, Taco Bell and Starbucks, located near the I-20/Springridge Road interchange.

Non-local landscape contractor chosen for Clinton project
A Ridgeland company has been awarded a contract to overhaul the landscaping along the Clinton Parkway, after last year’s drought left many of the plants dead or dying. The City will pay Trisler Landscape $47,298.79 to install new trees, shrubs, roses and grass in the ten parkway median traffic islands from Mississippi College to just south of Cynthia Street. The company will also provide organic planting mix and hardwood mulch.
New Pearl police chief comes from down the road
PEARL, Miss. — Richland's police chief is now Pearl's police chief. Nick McLendon, who has served as the Richland police chief since 2022, has been named Pearl police chief. McLendon began his law enforcement career in 2004 as a reserve officer for the Pearl Police Department. He will be sworn in as Pearl's chief during the March 5 meeting of the Board of Aldermen.

Jackson State Paid $800K To End Decades-Long HBCU Football Tradition, Documents Show
In 2022, Jackson State University paid $800,000 to resolve a lawsuit brought by Summitt Management Corporation, according to court documents obtained by the Clarion Ledger. The whopping suit came after the university attempted to withdraw from the final two years of its contract for the Southern Heritage Classic, an annual HBCU football game between the JSU Tigers and Tennessee State. The event, which is held at the Liberty Bowl in Memphis, is organized by Summitt Management Corporation.
