Former Shrewsbury Christmas Tree Shops may become trampoline park, town manager says
SHREWSBURY — The Shrewsbury Select Board has received a building permit request to transform the former Christmas Tree Shops location along Route 9 into a trampoline park. Town manager Kevin Mizikar said that was "good news" at this past Tuesday's Select Board meeting, adding it would be beneficial for Olde Shrewsbury Village, the shopping center that once housed the now-closed Christmas Tree Shops.
Death investigation ongoing in Lowell, DA says
There is an ongoing death investigation in Lowell on Saturday, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office. The death investigation is taking place at a Warren Street apartment, the district attorney’s office said in a press release. State police lieutenant Griffin sentenced to 5 years in prison for overtime thefts
WORCESTER ― State police Lt. Daniel J. Griffin was sentenced to five years in prison for habitual overtime thefts in U.S. District Court Friday. Griffin, who was convicted of multiple felonies including overtime theft in December, allegedly orchestrated the theft of more than $130,000 in federal grant funds, hid $700,000 in income from the IRS and fraudulently obtained $170,000 in financial aid from his children's private school.
Firefighters have permit to burn house for training; some neighbors object
Longtime Still River residents clearly recall the fires that scarred the neighborhood in past years. A 2008 fire damaged the old Baptist Meetinghouse, home of the Harvard Historical Society. A brush fire burned 9 acres of grassland in 2013. An earlier fire destroyed a garage on Still River Depot Road.
Teen indicted in connection with fatal 2022 Worcester shooting
One of the two teenagers charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old in 2022 will be tried as an adult in Worcester Superior Court. Isaiah Disla, 17, was charged with murder in connection with the shooting, according to court documents. He was scheduled to appear on Thursday for a pre-trial conference and will appear again on Sept. 9 for his pre-trial hearing.
Police find worker dead behind business Saturday
FRAMINGHAM — Police are investigating an apparent homicide outside a Framingham business Saturday night, officials announced. Framingham police were notified to a business on Worcester Road around 10 p.m. Saturday night where a 30-year-old man was found dead in the trash area behind a building, police said. The man, a current Framingham resident whose identity was not disclosed in the report, had suffered physical trauma.
