For the second day in a row, the Boise State men’s basketball team picked up a highly decorated player from the transfer portal.
Boise State on Thursday announced the addition of Arizona transfer Dylan Anderson, a 7-foot forward, who was a two-time Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year in high school. Anderson will have three years of eligibility remaining when he comes to the Broncos.
The signing comes a day after Boise State announced the addition of Javan Buchanan , a 6-foot, 7-inch wing who was a first-team NAIA All-American this past season at Indiana Wesleyan.
The addition of Anderson gives Boise State height in the post it didn’t have much in the lineup this season. Starting center O’Mar Stanley was listed as 6-8 on the Bronco roster. Cam Martin was frequently the first man off the bench and had just one inch on Stanley.
Anderson is three inches taller than Martin, who graduated after this past season, and can be a true center for the Broncos. How that affects the rest of Boise State’s lineup, particularly when it comes to the front court, remains to be seen. Stanley can play the 4 or 5, while Tyson Degenhart, who will be a four-year starter next year, can be at the 3 or 4.
Buchanan and Andrew Meadow, who had valuable minutes off the bench this season as a true freshman for the Broncos, both also play forward.
Anderson came to Arizona in 2022-23 as a four-star recruit and the No. 95-ranked player in his class, according to 247Sports. At Gilbert (Ariz.) Perry High, he averaged a double-double as both a junior and senior and became just the fifth player in state history to win multiple Gatorade Player of the Year honors.
In his first season with the Wildcats, in 2022-23, Anderson appeared in 15 games, but never had more than eight minutes in a game. In 56 minutes of action, he scored 21 points and had nine rebounds, shooting 7 for 17 from the field.
He redshirted this past season, a decision that reportedly was his own. According to the Arizona Daily Star in Tucson, Anderson made the decision to sit out the season with the Wildcats having a full 13 scholarships on their roster for the first time under coach Tommy Lloyd, including four 7-footers.
The decision allowed Anderson to maintain three years of eligibility heading into the 2024-25 season.
