Brooklynn Bockhaus played the role of hero for South Alabama softball in the Gainesville Regional on Friday at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.

With the Jaguars holding a slim 1-0 lead in the top of the seventh inning, Florida Atlantic hitter Kylie Hammon lined a single to right field with runners on first and second and two outs. Holley Pelus, who came onto pinch run, got the green light and rounded for home plate to try and tie the game. Instead, Bockhaus fired a strike to catcher Sasha Willems, who had enough time to gather and then tag out Pelus for the final out.

South Alabama (32-18-1) scored the lone run of the game when Stephanie Gonzalez doubled in Bailey Welch in the bottom of the sixth inning. FAU (41-14) will play FGCU (37-20) in an elimination game on Saturday. The Jaguars will face host and No. 4 seed Florida (47-12) with a chance to advance to the regional final on Sunday.
