BOAZ, Ala. (WHNT) – After an extensive career with the Boaz Police Department, Chief Michael Abercrombie announced Wednesday that he would be retiring in July.

He began at BPD in April of 2000 when he was a corrections officer. Since then, he has worn many hats: Sergeant, Detective, Chief Detective, Assistant Chief and, as of 2021, Chief of Police.

“It has been an incredible journey serving alongside each and every one of you. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with some of the most dedicated and talented individuals in law enforcement,” Abercrombie said. “Together, we have faced numerous challenges, celebrated successes, and built lasting relationships that I will always treasure.”

The police department is the only law enforcement agency Abercrombie has worked for, and he says each experience he has had has shaped him both personally and professionally.

“I am deeply grateful for the friendships I have formed and the memories I will carry with me. Please know that I will be leaving with a heavy heart, but also with confidence in the capable hands that will continue this important work, we do each day.”
