CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – A Boardman woman is facing charges, accused of stealing more than $30,000 from a former employer.

Kathryn Husak, 46, faces two counts of grand theft charges and tampering with evidence, both fourth-degree felonies.

The charges stem from an investigation that began in December.

According to a Canfield police report, Husak worked as an office manager at a business on E. Main Street, which alerted police to missing money.

A patient reported on Dec. 13 that she paid $179 in cash for a visit and had a receipt but kept receiving bills for a balance owed. The company’s director of reimbursement then began looking into cash transactions and noticed discrepancies with money that had been taken by Husak, according to the police report.

According to the report, Husak denied taking a substantial amount, saying it “may have been a few hundred dollars here or there,” and then blamed other employees.

The report alleges that Husak had been taking cash payments from patients and then altering the receipt to a lower payment or deleting the transaction and pocketing the money.

Police said an investigation found that a total of $36,841 had been missing since Husak started working there in 2019.

Charges against Husak were initially filed in January, and a Mahoning County grand jury returned an indictment in the case on March 14, according to court records.

Husak is set to appear in court for a pretrial at 10 a.m. April 10.
