BEAUFORT, S.C. (WSAV)- A 20-year-old St. Helena Island man has been convicted and sentenced in the 2019 Bluffton church parking lot shooting that left an 18-year-old Hilton Head High School graduate dead.

Back on Dec. 23, 2019, Trey Jaden Blackshear was killed in the parking lot of the Lord of Life Lutheran Church off Buckwalter Parkway.

Terrance Wing was found guilty of Blackshear’s murder and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a violent crime following a three-day jury trial at the Beaufort County Courthouse on Thursday, April 11.

Monday, April 15, he was sentenced to 40 years in prison. He received 35 years for the murder and five years for the gun charge. The sentences are to run consecutively.

At the time of this shooting, Wings was 16 years old but was still charged and prosecuted as an adult.

Xavier Da’Quan Barnes, a second defendant in this case, is also being tried as an adult for murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

He is presumed innocent until proven otherwise in court.

Circuit Court Judge Carmen T. Mullen handed down Monday’s sentence.
