State Park Aerial Tram Replacement Nearing Completion
Replacing the aerial trams at one of two West Virginia State parks moved a little closer to the finish line with an announcement on Monday. Scheduled for replacement after more than 50 years in service, a new state of the art aerial tram at Pipestem State Park is ready to re-open this fall. The $12.4 million tram replacement will transport Pipestem guests down the same, iconic 3,400-foot path into the Bluestone Gorge.

SUMMERS COUNTY W.Va. (Hinton News) - Summers County residents took to the polls on May 14 for the Primary Election. The results are in and here are the results for some of the most-watched races: In the race for Circuit Judge seat for Circuit 30 Division 1, Amy Mann emerged victorious with 34.9% of the vote. Charles Saunders secured victory in the Republican Primary for the Summers County Commission seat, garnering 53.9% of the vote. Jack Hellems clinched victory in the race for Summers Magistrate District 2, receiving 58.9% of the vote Lee Ann Goins secured a seat on the Hinton City Council, earning the trust and support of voters. The purposed Summers County School Levy failed by 59%. These results reflect the choices made by the voters of Summers County in the recent elections. Ambulance service owner convicted of tax crimes
The owner of an ambulance service that operates in Mingo County has been convicted in federal court of tax crimes. According to a statement from the office of U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia Will Thompson, after four days of trial on May 2, a jury in Beckley convicted Christopher Jason Smyth, 48, of Pineville, for for failing to pay the taxes withheld from employees’ wages at an ambulance service he operated – Stat EMS — and for obstructing the IRS.
