The woman hit by a vehicle and killed on Ind. 37 before dawn on Feb. 20 was Nerissa Bragg-Leaf, a 48-year-old unhoused woman who had been staying in Bloomington.

The Monroe County Coroner's Office initially withheld the woman's identity until they could contact her family.

About 6:40 that Tuesday morning, police received reports of someone wearing dark clothing walking south in the northbound lane of the highway. Three minutes later several callers said the person had been struck by a vehicle.

When sheriff’s deputies and emergency medical personnel arrived, they found the woman lying dead in the highway near Dillman Road.

Police arrested Dustin Eason, 38, of Bloomington, on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, a felony with a possible jail sentence of two to 12 years. He is out of jail on bond.
