Bloomfield Suburban Youth Basketball Teams Awarded More Hardware at Championships

They may not be racking up hardwood highlights for March Madness – yet – but two of Bloomfield’s youth basketball teams have good reasons to celebrate. At Monday’s Township Council meeting, the 8th Grade Boys and 6th Grade Girls teams were honored for placing first and second, respectively, in their Essex County Suburban Basketball League divisions this season.
Both teams have the notable distinction of winning back-to-back championships, having come out on top last season as well.
For the Boys team, their dominance has been on full display, netting a 28-3 win/loss record over the past two years (15-1 on their home court). They beat Millburn 61-51 in the championship game to finish this season with a 13-3 record.
The Boys team was coached by Jovan Epps, with David Williams as the assistant coach.
The 6th Grade Girls team also has a sustained record of excellence, boasting a 25-5 record over two years, including 12 wins and three losses this past season. They bested Nutley 23-18 in the championship game, avenging a regular season loss to the neighboring town.
The Girls team roster includes:
Abigail Bailey
Mia-Raye Baines
Annika Belmonte
Chloe Del Purgatorio
Grace Harvey
Amour Mann
Rylie Molinaro
Ruya Mosquera
Francesca Salandra
T.J. Smith-Bermudez
Carmen Wilson
The Girls team was coached by Zeke Harvey, with Franco Salandra assisting.
