A native of Antigo, Brandt brings a strong background in athletics, education, and healthcare to the position. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from UW–Eau Claire and her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the College of St. Catherine in Minneapolis. She has worked as a physical therapist at Aspirus Langlade Hospital for the past 18 years.

Alabama chancellor selected as new UW president

(The Center Square) – There will soon be a new president at the University of Wisconsin. University regents recently announced they have hired Tonjanita Johnson as the school's new president. Johnson comes to the UW from the University of Alabama, where she served as the senior vice chancellor for academic and student affairs. She replaces Jay Rothman who was forced out in April. "Public higher education has the power to improve lives, strengthen communities and shape a state’s future," Johnson said in a statement. "I look forward to working with our chancellors, faculty, staff, students, elected leaders and partners across Wisconsin to ensure that our universities remain engines of opportunity, innovation and economic vitality." The university did not say how much Johnson will be paid, but Rothman was making $600,000 a year as UW president. Johnson will start as university president early next year. She will assume control of a university system that is facing some serious challenges. The UW, also on Friday, released its official enrollment numbers for the new school year. "Overall enrollment totaled 164,579 in fall 2026, according to 10th day enrollment figures, a decrease of 1,233 students, or 0.7%, from fall 2025," the university said in

GILMAN — Lucas Halida and a dominant Gilman ground attack had their way with Athens on Friday night as No. 1 seed Gilman shut out No. 6 seed Athens 55-0 in a WIAA 8-player football sectional final at Gilman High School. The Pirates move to 12-0, running their winning streak through the sectional round with authority. Athens ends its season 7-4. Lucas Halida, a senior, led Gilman’s ground assault with 103 rushing yards on five carries, averaging 20.6 yards per touch in what was a decisive evening for the Pirates’ backfield. Gilman rushed for 298 yards as a team at 9.6 yards per carry, grinding Athens down from the opening drive. Halida also converted a two-point attempt as part of a Gilman offense that routinely moved at will through the Athens defense.
