BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Gov. Livingston paid tribute to its seniors in a special ceremony Thursday night before their lacrosse game against Blair Academy at Snyder Avenue Field. Among the honored players were Rodrigo Araujo, Owen Chait, Mac Chiefa, Joseph Dasti, Michael Geertsma, Patrick Kingsley, Christian Magliacano, Wyatt Manning, Ryan McDonnell, Brett Peer, William Smookler, Will Sottosanti, Ryan Tomich, and Carter Wahlers.
The game kicked off with a tribute to the seniors, igniting the excitement for what promised to be a thrilling game. Gov. Livingston quickly got the crowd roaring as Peer found the net, securing their first score. Peer contributed two goals and one assist to the team's efforts. However, Blair Academy's dominant presence on the field, marked by swift conversions and potent offense from Kaleb Nelson and Carsten Viravec, who collectively scored nine of Blair's 12 goals, ensured they maintained a commanding lead throughout the game.
Junior Andy Nappi displayed his skills with a hat trick for the Highlanders, narrowing the deficit. Magliacano also found the net twice. Scott McRae joined the scoring with a goal assisted by Peer, while Chiefa fired off a powerful shot. McRae further contributed with an assist.
In defense, Michael Nelson showcased his prowess with an impressive 20 saves, keeping Gov. Livingston in the game. The team fought hard in the fourth quarter to maintain possession. Despite their spirited comeback attempts, turnovers and Blair's swift offense posed significant challenges for GL to overcome, resulting in a 12-9 defeat.
Next, Gov. Livingston will hit the road to play against Morristown on Saturday, Morris Hills on Tuesday, and will face off against neighboring New Providence in the highly anticipated rivalry game on Thursday.
