Iowa 9 / WIS 82 Mississippi River Bridge Center Span Installation Moved to Friday
Making the connection of the new Mississippi River bridge being constructed between Lansing, Iowa and Wisconsin, has been delayed by Mother Nature. The Iowa and Wisconsin DOTs have announced that the center span of the new Iowa 9 / WIS 82 Mississippi River Bridge will now be installed on Friday (06.12); pushing it back from Thursday (06.11) due to weather concerns. Crews will also need to close the free car ferry and restrict other traffic on the Mississippi, so the pre-assembled center span section can be floated down the river and connected into place.

La Crosse city committee favors unlimited pedi-cab hours, and endorses Copper Rocks plan for K-Mart lot
The city of La Crosse is one step closer to lifting time restrictions on when a pedi-cab can operate. Under an ordinance change approved by the judiciary committee Tuesday night, a bicycle-style cab would not be limited to the hours of 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. That proposal will go to the full city council for a vote later this month. The hour change would have no effect on the bigger pedal-cars, such as the pub trolley, that operate downtown.

Caledonia City Council discusses parking lines downtown
The Caledonia City Council met Tuesday, May 26, and called to order at 6 p.m. Present were City Clerk/Administrator Jake Dickson; Public Works & Zoning Director Casey Klug, council members Bob Klug, David Fitzpatrick and John Rauk; and Mayor Jeremy Leis. Others in attendance were Andrew Forciti of CohnReznick, Finance Officer Stephanie Mann, Gary Otterness of Otterness, LLC, Amy Engelhart of Boutique Station Too, Tracey Knutson and Bryan Spier, Planning Board and co-owners of Frank & Julia’s. The minutes from the May 11 regular meeting were approved with one correction noted by Rauk, a line should read “the United States’ flag.” The consent agenda also passed, including payments and disbursements, lifeguard hires at $13.75 per hour, a conditional use permit, sign and deck permits. Founder’s Day street closures were discussed. Businesses asked what time streets would close; they will remain open until around 8:30–9:30 a.m., with more barricades planned this year. Downtown streets to get parallel parking lines Public comments opened by Spier addressed the need for painted parallel parking on the primary business streets, a topic that sparked more discussion than council chambers usually see. He estimated the project would cost about $5,000, possibly a bit more, for epoxy

Transportation needs for La Crosse area are spolighted at local roundtable
Reliable and affordable transportation were a main focus of a Monday meeting in La Crosse about transportation needs, held at the Radisson. The state’s Transportation Development Association says highway and transit projects could use more state funding. TDA director Debby Jackson says a lack of money prevents the state from funding innovative transportation projects. In many cases, “the resources are not adequate for the community’s needs,” says Jackson. Those needs could vary, she says, from a state highway “that’s in bad shape,” or a highway expansion that’s limiting economic growth.
