BISMARCK, ND ( KXNET ) — The Burleigh County Commission has appointed an advisory committee to study plans on expanding development within the Missouri Valley Complex, an area on the eastern edge of the city.

The area is currently home to an NDSU extension agency, a 4-H Building, a small rodeo grounds, a motocross race track and a community garden is planted.

They are meeting with stakeholders involved in the project to discuss how to move forward with developing the area.

“The property, we have a lot of area out there, and so that’s the first thing we want to do is make sure, we’re all in step, so that we can start shuffling the pieces on the board and in the right places,” said Burleigh County Commissioner Wayne Munson, who advises the committee.

Munson says current plans under review include the construction of an indoor ag and extension center that could host several different events as well as a camping area for people participating in rodeos and other events.

The advisory committee is also discussing ways to expand development in the area to include room for a fairgrounds and midway for carnivals.

“That’s one of the other driving forces with how we want to redevelop this. We haven’t had a fair for a long time and we’re the capitol city — we should have a fair,” expressed Munson. “We should bring all of our residents together for that opportunity and it hasn’t happened.”

The advisory committee is meeting every three weeks with stakeholders to help shape a formal plan for the development of the Missouri Valley Complex, which they will eventually present to the Burleigh County Commission for consideration.
