BISMARCK, ND ( KXNET ) — The Bismarck Art & Galleries Association (BAGA) is a private, non-profit art gallery that hopes to not only showcase the many talented artists in and around the American Midwest, but also to celebrate the cultural heritage of North Dakota and encourage a love of the arts in our community.

As one may expect from such a group, their main gallery, located in downtown Bismarck, features an ever-changing array of exhibits. Every month, the facility hosts two special exhibitions: a small feature segment for a regional or local creator, and a larger gallery-wide display. These exhibits are free to attend during the building’s hours of operation, or browsed during private tours.

Below is a list of the current main and featured artist displays that will be coming to the Bismarck Art & Galleries Association’s main building in the next month.

    Main Exhibit: Square Foot Exhibit

The Bismarck Art and Galleries Association is hosting its 13th annual Square Foot Exhibit — which features over 100 works of art from nearly 75 artists based in both the Great Plains region and around the United States.

Throughout the exhibition, a variety of pieces from multiple styles and mediums will be on display, from artists of different skill levels and tackling various subject matters. Each participant was invited to enter up to two pieces in any media on BAGA-furnished canvases to ensure they are alike in both size and depth.

All artwork in the Square Foot Exhibit is available for purchase, at a rate of $155 per piece.

    Featured Artist: Sandra Cofell

The BAGA’s Featured Artist for the month of May is Sandra Cofell: a member artist from Bismarck. Cofell works in acryllics and colored pencils, and her pieces are inspired by both her travels and the photographs she takes during them.

May’s exhibits are sponsored by Paige Pederson, and in part by both the ND Council on the Arts and the Tom & Frances Leach Foundation. They will remain hanging in the gallery through Wednesday, May 22.

Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. For more information on this month’s showcases, visit the BAGA’s website here, or call 701-223-5986. A virtual tour of May’s exhibits will be available on the website later this month.
