BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) – The seventh annual Birmingham Taco Fest is happening on Sunday at Sloss Furnaces. The Alabama Arts nonprofit Bare Hands, Inc. is running the event and says taco vendors will be competing for the prize of top taco.

Joana Maldonado Araujo, Owner, Pasteles La MoreliAna Mexican Dessert Truck and Bare Hands, Inc. Executive Director Aimee Castro joined the CBS 42 Morning News on Saturday to talk about the event.

“We have a panel of judges that will decide the top tacos and we will have the people’s choice so the people can vote as well on the top tacos and it’s very competitive,” Castro said.

New Alabama public library code could change what children find on bookshelves

Last year was the first time Maldonado Araujo participated in the event. She said the dessert food truck was busy from the moment it opened.

“This year’s our second year so I hope everyone shows out again, but we’re ready,” Maldonado Araujo said. “We’re ready for everyone.”

The nonprofit is about to celebrate 28 years in the community.

“We create immersive art experiences for the community, Birmingham and beyond,” Castro said. “This money funds our outreach, and we’re really excited to be expanding that.”

Taco Fest starts at 1:00 p.m. at Sloss Furnaces. It’s $15 and kids 12 and under get in for free.
