Saginaw woman charged with severely burning 3-year-old’s hands with scalding water
SAGINAW, MI — A Saginaw woman is facing a life offense after allegedly burning a child she was babysitting. On April 15, Makalia M. Taylor-Spivey was babysitting her boyfriend’s 3-year-old son at the child’s Saginaw residence, said Saginaw Police Detective Matthew Gerow. While in her care, the boy suffered severe burns to his hands from scalding water, Gerow said.
Saginaw man who skipped robbery trial in custody after police standoff ends in dog bite
SAGINAW, MI — After skipping his armed robbery trial months ago, a Saginaw man is back in custody after engaging in a standoff with police. While no gunshots were fired, the suspect suffered a bite from a police K-9. Around 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 23, the Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team attempted to serve an arrest warrant on 56-year-old Dwayne K. Smith at his home in the 700 block of Munson Court. Smith had barricaded himself inside and would not come out.

Saginaw-area sports highlights: Frankenmuth girls claim MITCA state title
The Frankenmuth girls track team claimed the Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association Division 2 state title, edging Cadillac for the title. Frankenmuth scored 1,582.5 points, with Cadillac second with 1,419. Freeland finished 10th with 1,089 points at Berrien Springs. The MITCA meet is a team event, with the top teams invited and all athletes competing from those teams. The Michigan High School Athletic Association meet, which is Saturday, invites individual qualifiers from the regional meets.
