BINGHAMTON, NY (WIVT/WBGH) – Seton Catholic Central is undergoing renovations to create a new business school and an updated space for the performing arts.

On Thursday, the entire school went to mass together for the last time this year, to celebrate the Ascension of the Lord, a Holy Day of Obligation.

After mass, the performing arts teacher, Jan DeAngelo, showed off new renovations to the building next door, which used to be a rectory.

DeAngelo says one portion of the building will become a new business center, where students will take business courses and operate their own company.

Another portion of the building will receive an addition to create a new dance studio, and space to perform theatre and the arts.

Performing Arts Teacher at Seton Catholic Central, Jan DeAngelo says, “We have what is called the Vitkus Center, which is a family that donated to have our old priest home renovated into a business school and into a theatre arts area.”

DeAngelo says students will operate their own business, including creating a product, marketing it, and selling it.

He says the program is a result of the family atmosphere at Seton.

Sophomore, Michael Rundell says, celebrating mass and doing service projects brings everyone together.

Sophomore at Seton, Michael Rundell says, “Really building about that family through here, through sports, through academics, through choir or theatre, or people into anything, really just brings us together. It feels great to go here, knowing all of these people around me.”

DeAngelo says despite students’ busy schedule, including mandatory service projects and championship caliber sports, Seton has a 100% graduation rate.

He says the new building and new programs should be ready in the next year.
