BINGHAMTON, NY (WIVT/WBGH) – A national sports talk radio host who grew up in Binghamton returned home last week to share how her hometown inspired her love of athletics.

Maggie Gray was the featured speaker at the Binghamton University Forum on Friday at the Holiday Inn in downtown Binghamton.

Gray is currently co-host of the talk show “Maggie and Perloff” which airs from 6 to 10 a.m. weekdays on the Infinity Sports Network, formerly CBS Sports Radio.

Gray, who graduated from Binghamton High School, recounted how she interned for the B-C Icemen hockey team while still in high school.

And she shared a humorous story about her misadventures as an umpire for girls softball games.

Gray says she loves to talk about Binghamton whenever she can during her show, including the time she interviewed Tim Tebow and he recounted how he came to enjoy our area as a member of the Rumble Ponies.

“I’m really lucky that doing my job means telling who you are on the air. Your fans get to know you, your listeners get to know you. And I am a townie from Binghamton and I am proud of that. I have so many friends and family who live here and I am so lucky to call this my home. I feel privileged and I talk about Binghamton all the time,” she said.

Gray says opportunities are increasing for women in sports broadcasting, although she’s often still the only woman in the room.

When she was still in college, Gray spent some time at NewsChannel 34 creating a demo reel in our studio as she was looking to launch her career.
