Streaking B-Mets show what's to come

The Binghamton Mets made it five consecutive Eastern League wins and a six-game lead in the North Division by defeating the Yankees of Albany-Colonie, 1-0 on the strength of Tracy Sanders’ first home run of the season.

The Mets’ left fielder Tracy Sanders sent a 3-2 pitch over the wall in right field in the second inning, the lone offensive production needed to send the team to an 11th win in its most recent 13 games and seventh in succession away from Binghamton Municipal Stadium.

B-Mets starting pitcher Juan Castillo permitted four hits and struck out four, and three relievers teamed to deny Albany-Colonie a hit through conclusion of a game that left the team with its third shutout of 1994 and lowered the staff’s ERA to a collective 2.89.

Of course, that 1994 B-Mets squad was, come September, saluted as Eastern League champion for the second time in the franchise’s three years of existence.
