(WIVT/WBGH) – A Binghamton man has been found guilty of a violent home invasion that occurred last year in the Town of Chenango.

A Broome County jury convicted 40-year-old Alex Shoga, Junior of two counts each of robbery, burglary and criminal possession of a weapon.

In March of 2023, Shoga broke into a home on Dimmock Hill Road and struck a man on his head twice with a handgun. He then held that man and another man at gunpoint, face down on the floor and threatened to kill them.

Shoga proceeded to steal money, credit cards, cell phones and wallets before fleeing.

Using the “Find My iPhone” app on one of the victim’s phones, the Broome County Sheriff’s Office was able to track Shoga’s Jeep Wrangler to Johnson City where a high-speed pursuit ensued, with speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour.

Shoga eventually jumped out of the Jeep just before it ran into a building and officers were able to apprehend him following a foot chase.

Due to previous convictions, Shoga faces between 15 years to life and 25 years to life at his sentencing in July.

Local attorney Ben Bergman served as special prosecutor for the case.
