    Man struck, killed by oncoming traffic in Bessemer identified

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — A man killed after being hit by a car in the early morning hours Tuesday in Bessemer was identified Wednesday.

    The victim, 45-year-old Roland Thomas Harris, was hit by a car while crossing the road in the 1000 block of 9th Avenue SW just after 1:00 a.m. Tuesday. Harris was later taken to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:57 a.m.

    According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, the driver who hit the pedestrian was the one who called 911 to report the crash.

    The Bessemer Police Department is investigating the crash.
