The Founder of Ikenga Wines Is Opening a Spot in Berkeley

According to a recently submitted permit application, the founder of Ikenga Wines is planning to open a spot in Berkeley.

Coming to 1730 San Pablo Avenue , the yet-to-be-named concept will land near establishments such as Acme Bread, Bartavelle Cafe, and Cafe Leila.

What Now San Francisco reached out to its owner, Onye Ahanotu , to inquire about the concept, but he could not provide additional information before publication.

For readers who are unfamiliar with Ikenga Wines, the business is known for its palm wine — “one of the oldest known wines, naturally occurring when sap from damaged trees spontaneously fermenting within hours,” according to the Ikenga website .

Its founder, Ahanotu, “grew up as a Nigerian-American in the heart of the, now world-renowned, Northern California Wine Country” and “is classically trained in the sciences, engineering and design.”

While locals can expect to find wine on the menu, the opening date has not been announced yet. Stay tuned for updates.
